Kelray Heating was founded out of a need for a more durable outdoor heating solution. Dissatisfied with the NZ outdoor heating products on the market at the time, we set out to produce the next generation in outdoor heating solutions. The Kelray range is purpose built for NZ conditions, specifically, our salt-laden air.
Many overseas manufactured heaters are prone to rust in our salt-laden air and are left unusable in a very short timeframe. Kelray set out to produce an outdoor heater that could withstand atmospheric conditions in places like Christchurch and other NZ cities.

Why We Build Kelray Heaters with Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel.
When we see a product labeled as stainless steel we assume it is just that - stainless! Sadly for Kiwi consumers, not all stainless steel is created equal.
Stainless steel is available in a wide range of grades. The most prevalent we see used in outdoor heating products is 304 grade. While this is may be adequate in some provinces, it is susceptible to rust in saline climates, like coastal cities. Christchurch is a seaside settlement. This means 304 grade products deteriorate swiftly with persistent outdoor useage. All overseas-built models of outdoor heaters are built with the cheaper 304 grade.
Kelray solely uses 316 marine-grade stainless steel in the manufacturing of our heaters.
